April Sanitation Exercise: Default And Face Prosecution, Abia Environment Perm. Sec. Warns

The Abia State Ministry of Environment has informed the general public that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of April will hold on Saturday, on Saturday April 29, 2023 in Abia State between the hours of 9 am and 11am.

The release signed by the Commissioner for Environment Barr, Sam Nwogu warned that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.

The release directed that people should stay at home, clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask while participating in the exercise.

The release further stipulated that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

According to the release, Executive Chairmen of the Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in the state are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.

The release partly read, “All markets, motor Parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday April 28 ,2023 between the hours of 7am and 9am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.

“The Nigeria police, Federal Road safety Corps, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment”, the release stated.
