NDE ABIA CONDUCTS THE CLOSING CEREMONY FOR THE FIVE DAY TRAINING OF 20 WOMEN ON SHOE AND BAG MAKING.

The National Directorate of Employment, Abia State office on Tuesday 24th April held the closing ceremony and Exhibition of the five day training of 20 women in shoe and bag making.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Tessy Wachuku in her speech expressed joy and satisfaction at the huge success of the training exercise. All the participants independently made a minimum of one product which were displayed at the ceremony.

The NDE Abia Boss went ahead to present certificates and transport allowances to the participants. She urged them to continue to try their hands on all they have learnt as practice makes perfect.

She also encouraged them to make judicious use of the starter packs that will be sent to them at the instance of the headquarters.

Miss Oluchi Odukaobi, desk officer for Women Employment Branch (WEB) in her vote of thanks expressed her gratitude to God, the guests who graced the occasion and the students for their focus and dexterity displayed throughout the duration of the training.

Mrs Onyinye Lazarus, one of the participants thanked the Directorate on behalf of her Co participants and promised to make good use of the opportunity given to them

Recall that at the commencement of the five-day Women Employment Branch (WEB) empowerment training for 20 selected women in bag and shoe making in the state, the Director General of NDE, Mallam Abubukar Nuhu Fikpo represented by the Abia state NDE Coordinator, Mrs Tessy Wachuku, disclosed that the training which has taken place in the 19 Northern states of the federation is on the second phase, holding in the 17 Southern states of the country and according to him, it is set to train a total number of seven hundred and forty (740) women at the rate of 20 women per state.

He said that the objective of the Women Employment Branch (WEB), the umbrella unit conducting the training was to design income generating activities for women in order to generate mass employment and reduce poverty amongst them.

Fikpo, therefore encouraged the women to take the training seriously, practice what they are taught so as to become self – employed and thereby increase the wealth and dignity of their families.

Lending her voice, the President of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) Abia State chapter, Mrs Agnes Okorie Afia who was represented by the Public Relations Officer, PRO of the chapter, Mrs Calista Ufommadu encouraged the women to put in their best so as to become world class entrepreneurs who will compete favourably in the global arena.

Earlier in a remark, the the Head Of Department, HOD for Women Employment Branch (WEB) at the headquarters, Miss Chikodi Ike who was represented by Miss Chika Joy Eze encouraged the trainees to take their training seriously as they will be given starter packs to establish their businesses but on the condition that they are regular and committed to the training.

Also in a brief speech, Mr Friday Ukaegbu, HOD, Small Scale Enterprises department (SSE) appreciated all who graced the occasion and urged the trainees to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the federal government through the NDE.

Responding on behalf of the 20 trainees,
Miss Vera Chidinma appreciated the NDE for providing them the platform to better their lives and promised to make judicious use of what will be given to them.
